Plot[]

ADayAtTheRodeo-02

Popeye and Bluto are competing in a rodeo for a date with rodeo queen Olive. The first event is bronc riding and Bluto cheats before they burst from the chute by slapping Popeye's hat over his eyes. Bluto shows off with some fancy trick riding but, even blinded, Popeye is still a match for him.

Next, in the steer riding event, Bluto's tricks backfire. Popeye not only wins, he sets a new bull riding record and Bluto has to be carried off on a stretcher.

Bluto almost misses the bullfighting event next but wakes up just in time to face his opponent. The bull really has Bluto against the ropes but Bluto manages to take it down before the final bell. Bluto's take-down impresses everyone but Bluto still cheats to ensure that he wins this event. He puts on a bull costume to fight Popeye himself. Popeye uses his red neckerchief as a cape to hide a boxing glove and knocks Bluto out on the first pass to win.

In the barrel racing event, Bluto tries to win by anchoring Popeye's horse down with a magnet. This stunt makes Bluto overconfident so he stops to flirt with Olive. Popeye is able to free his horse and rounds the barrels with blinding speed to win this event also.

The last event is calf roping. Bluto trips over Popeye's rope and smashes the pen holding the calf's mother. Popeye eats his spinach to round up both calf and mother to win the rodeo.

Trivia[]

  • There is an error in the animation in this episode. When Popeye is bucked off of his bronc, he lands in a trough of water. At first, Popeye has his chaps on like he should. After a cut to Bluto, however, he has no pants on. After another cut, he only has his blue jeans on.
