Blow Me Down! is the 2nd Popeye theatrical cartoon short, starring William "Billy" Costello as Popeye, Bonnie Poe as Olive Oyl and William Pennell as Bluto. It was released in 1933 and is the second in Fleischer Studios' series of Popeye theatrical cartoons released by Paramount Pictures.

Plot[]

Popeye comes to Mexico to see Olive Oyl. He beats up a few of the locals before going to the bar where Olive dances. He gives her some flowers, then she steps into a spitoon and does a funny dance while trying to get out of it. Then, Bluto arrives. There is a 'wanted' poster on the wall, and Bluto and the poster notice one another. Bluto and Popeye have a battle in the bar in which Bluto gets his friends involved. With everything moving in time with the music soundtrack, the battle moves to Olive's dressing room. Finally, after eating spinach, Popeye strikes at Bluto and sends him flying around the world.

Trivia[]

  • First cartoon to show Popeye encountering Bluto and Olive as they play new roles.
    • In this case, Bluto is depicted as a Mexican outlaw and Olive is depicted as a saloon girl.
  • First cartoon in which Olive wears panties. Previously, she wore bloomers.
