Hardtack, the nephew of Brutus, is a character that first appeared in the 86th issue of the Popeye the Sailor comic book (in 1967). A mischievous and unruly child, he is meant to oppose Popeye's adopted son Swee'Pea and is likewise depicted as a gowned infant. Hardtack would go on to make further appearances during the same year, but was not used in later stories for many years until making a comeback in the September 18, 2022 strip of Randy Milholland's run of Popeye Sundays.[1]
It was also confirmed that Burlo is his father in the aforementioned 2022 strip.
Hardtack was created by Bud Sagendorf.
