"Heap Cheap Hotel" is an episode from The All-New Popeye Hour's "Dinky Dog" segment for Hanna-Barbera Productions in association with King Features Syndicate. It first aired on November 4, 1978 and was directed by Ray Patterson and Carl Urbano. Monica was voiced by Julie Bennett, Sandy was voiced by Jackie Joseph and Uncle Dudley was voiced by Frank Nelson.
Plot[]
Uncle Dudley gets a new electric lawnmower delivered and has to try it immediately. The sound of it scares Dinky and he starts running to get away from it. As he does, his feet get caught in the cord and he drags it everywhere he runs. The lawnmower destroys the lawn and the rose bush outside as well as the carpet inside.
Sandy tells Uncle Dudley that she and Monica will pay for the damages so they go out to find a job. As they are driving around, they see a help wanted sign at a rundown hotel called the Heap Cheap Hotel. The owner, Mr. Fizzle, hires them on the spot and tells them to make the place look good. He then rushes off to pick up Hilton J. Asterbrook, a potential buyer of the hotel, at the airport. As soon as Fizzle drives off, Mr. Asterbrook drives up.
The girls try to impress him by showing him around the hotel, and that is when everything starts to go wrong. The first thing Dinky does is bulldoze him through the front door straight out the back into the trashcans in the alley. Next, he pushes him into the elevator and sends it crashing to the basement. There Dinky brings part of a wall down on top of him.
The final act of disaster comes when Sandy accidentally locks him in a supply closet. When Dinky tugs on the door to open it, Mr. Asterbrook flies down the stairs and out the front door. The girls know that he will never buy the hotel now.
As soon as Dinky follows Mr. Asterbrook, Mr. Fizzle walks in the door with a man who says he is Mr. Asterbrook. Mr. Fizzle quickly has him sign the sale contract before he can change his mind about buying the hotel. When Dinky runs in, he rips it up anyway and walks out, then the other man walks back in.
He explains that he is the famous architect Lloyd Frank Wrong and he wants to buy the hotel. He explains that it was his first building and it is a good example of his work.
